The girls of the Nakuru Childrens home
The Children’s Home was started in 1990 and has been in its current location of Njoro since 1994. The two-acre piece of land was bought by the Lions Club of Menengai, Nakuru, for the purpose of housing street children who are orphans. The Lions also constructed the buildings and are still actively supporting the maintenance of the Home and the education of the children.
Currently the home has twenty-six girls. Most of the girls are orphans except for a few cases where one of the parents is living but is mentally unfit to raise the child. The youngest girl is five years old and the oldest will turn seventeen in 2007.
All the girls are in school and get extra tuition during the holidays and weekends. Most of the older girls handle the domestic work on weekends and school holidays.

The nursery school was started in 2003 for the poor families in the
neighborhood. Now there are 120 children aged between three and eight
years old. The children take their lunch in the school and have
classes until 4 PM.
The school curriculum is based on Neo-Humanistic Education and addresses
the whole development of the child. That and the dedication of the
teachers have made the school popular. One primary school headmaster
mentioned that his top pupils in primary one are usually from our
nursery school.
On the property there is a small dairy farm that provide the school with milk and the occasional cheese.
